IN THE SPOTLIGHT: THE GUEST BEDROOM
IN THE SPOTLIGHT: THE GUEST BEDROOM
Welcome to the first post in a new series for Westcot House called ‘In the Spotlight’. In this series we will focus on different areas of our homes and consider how to make the most of the space available through considerate interior design and beautiful soft furnishings.
To start the series, we thought we would take a look at the often forgotten guest bedroom. This space may have to be flexible to meet the needs of different guests and we suggest you first consider the size of bed required. If you’re often hosting couples and families with children, you may like to consider choosing two single mattresses, which offer wide flexibility as can either be positioned apart or pushed together to create one large luxurious bed. Westcot House can help source the ideal bed and mattress for your space and once chosen, we can design a bespoke headboard as the room’s focal point. We created these versatile padded headboards in Rapture & Wright’s Madder Pink fabric which work equally well when the mattresses are being used as two singles or as one kingsize.
The guest bedroom is often the perfect room to decorate with colour and pattern which you may shy away from in other rooms in your home.
Westcot House’s bespoke design packages can help you to decide on a bold colour scheme you have been dreaming about or you may prefer to embrace a calm neutral palette. This bedroom from Homes & Gardens featuring fabrics by Nina Campbell for Osborne & Little is a harmonious mix of blues creating a relaxing guest bedroom.
In some houses, where space is a premium, the guest bedroom may also have a number of other identities, for example as a cosy study. Our design packages will also help you to make the most of the space so the room remains practical day to day and becomes cosy and comfortable when guests come to stay.
The guest bedroom deserves sumptuous linens and soft furnishings to create a home away from home and ensure your guests feel comfortable. We all have our own preferences when it comes to bedding so adding a couple of extra throws will help make your guests feel at home.
Westcot House can source beautiful bedding and throws for your space, from companies including Soho Home, Bedfolk and Inchyra. Their personalised wool throws are the thoughtful touch your guests will continue to appreciate night after night.
Having somewhere cosy for your guests to sit, like a window seat or a comfortable armchair, will be welcomed and again you, can use beautiful soft furnishings to create a cosy nook. Our client wished to incorporate this bold orange chaise longue into their spare room and the orange velvet fabric by Romo is complemented with the bespoke cushions in Rapture & Wright’s Baya coral fabric.
